Smith has been participating in wrestling for three years, and will be graduating this year from Heritage High School.
“The best advice I’ve received is to finish what I start,” Jayden Smith said. “It’s why I’m still here and motivates me to work hard.”
Pregame rituals are a big thing for some athletes. Smith shared that before every one of his matches, he takes a moment to clear his head and ignore everything else going on around him.
One of the main jobs of a coach is to give out advice and guidance to their team. Smith explained that the best advice he’s received from a coach is to “win a match in your head before you win on the mat, meaning you have to come in knowing what you’re going to do and how to plan on winning.”
Smith also placed 5th at the 2022 Saginaw County Invitational in January at Frankenmuth High School.
As an athlete, injuries are inevitable. Smith shares that “injuries have been my biggest challenge throughout sports, but keeping a positive mindset and taking action to get healthy has been a priority of mine.”
Along with wrestling, Jayden Smith participated in track his freshman year, and played football for three years.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork. “Being a member of a team like this has taught me how to encourage others and push them to get better everyday,” Smith shared. One of his personal goals is to constantly improve himself and become better at what he does.
When he’s not wrestling, Smith enjoys lifting, playing video games, and playing with his dogs in his free time.
