Mattawan’s Carson Byers, Miami (Ohio) baseball commit is one step closer to his dreams
MATTAWAN, Mich. — Carson Byers is a Senior at Mattawan High School who is working to achieve his dream of one day making it on a MLB team. Carson is heading to Miami University Signee (Ohio) in the fall to play D1 baseball. He has been inspired by his mentors and friends and he is on his way to becoming an inspiration for others. He hopes to play MLB so that he can give back to his community while doing what he loves. Before he heads to Ohio, he will join his hometown team, the Kalamazoo Growlers, for their 2022 season. An opportunity for which he feels “extremely blessed.”
Carson’s parents have been very influential in his success. His parents taught him the value of hard work, the importance of earning everything that comes his way, and how to give back.
Like many athletes, Carson has his pre-game ritual. Although it will remain his secret; he believes that completing them sets him up for success, and without them he isn’t in the best position to win.
Failure can be a challenge for many of us, including Carson. He has learned to overcome failure by leaving it in the past and focusing on the “next play.” This is advice that he shares with his teammates to lift them up while encouraging them to be in the present moment.
Carson has played baseball for 14 years. Being part of a team has taught him how to work with others while also giving him the satisfaction of knowing there is always someone by his side. Carson loves how rewarding baseball is, and treasures the relationships he has built over the years. Some of his best friends were made on the field and his favorite childhood memories happened playing the game.
When he isn’t playing baseball he is on the ice playing hockey. Although sports keeps him very busy, when he isn’t competing Carson likes to visit new places and spend time with his family and friends.
Carson is a true representation of someone who is dedicated to achieving his dreams. Carson is grateful for his opportunities and the support he has received from the people closest to him. He reflects on advice he received from a mentor by sharing, “You have the power to achieve anything in life. If you work hard enough and put yourself in the right situation, it will be possible to reach whatever dreams you may have.”
