HC Jed Kennedy ‘excited about the direction of Dothan High football’
DOTHAN, Ala. — Dothan High School has a new football coach. His Name is Jed Kennedy. He grew up in Alma, Wisconsin. He attended college at the University of Wisconsin/River Falls were he played linebacker on the football team. His high school sweetheart, Melissa, became his wife in 2002 and they moved to Florida to coach at Lake Brantley High School. Two years later, Kennedy began 14 years of head coaching opportunities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida. Under his leadership as Head Coach, his teams have been the 2011 Wisconsin Division 1 State Champion, 2017, and 2018 Wisconsin Division 2 State Runner-Ups. His overall record as Head Coach is 115-47 and his playoff record is 26-10. The last three years he has been at Enterprise High School as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator. Jed and Melissa have two daughters. Makenna is an 11th grader and Shaelyn is in the 7th grade.
Kennedy said that his first year will be spent developing the culture of the football program and building relationships inside and outside the school walls. He said, “to fix things on the field, you have to fix things off the field” and he firmly believes that culture and relationships is the starting point. Regarding his recent meetings with the football team Kennedy said, “Every day that I am around them I get more excited about the direction of Dothan High football,” He is big, really big, on structure, discipline and relationship building and says those three components will be the “foundation of our program.”
Spring football practice will be held in May.The first game will be at Carroll High School on August 19th. In between now and then one of his goals is to be in the community. “I want to get in front of as many people as possible to sell what our program is going to look like”.
