Rashaud Armstrong Jr. has a career for the record books on the Buena HS gridiron

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Rashaud Armstrong Jr. (RJ), 18, of Sierra Vista, Arizona just recently completed his final year of high school football with the Buena Colts. RJ is not only a stellar athlete with a promising career ahead of him, he is a young man of distinct character. Born to Naomi and Rashaud Armstrong Sr. in 2004 in Pinebluff, Arkansas, RJ showed promise of his athletic abilities as a toddler. His father, Rashaud Sr., remembers taking his first born son outside to toss around the football and saw his potential in his early years. Rashaud Sr., a profound athlete in his own right, began to mentor and nurture the love of football in his son. RJ began playing tackle football at the age of 10 for Colts, a youth football team through the Sierra Vista Cheer and Football League.

He continued to play football for the Sierra Vista youth league until he relocated to San Pedro, California where he played his first year of high school football. As a freshman at San Pedro, his athletic abilities made him stand out to the coaches. They recommended that RJ be moved to the varsity team, but his father objected as his wanted to ensure his son had enough time to develop his technique and get adequate playing time. Upon completing his freshman year at San Pedro, RJ decided to move back to Sierra Vista where he started on the junior varsity football team at Buena. He was called up to Varsity when the team went to playoffs. Once again, the coaching staff recognized the natural athletic ability of this young man. RJ started as a Varsity football player for Buena his junior and senior year and had stand out years.

RJ’s preferred position is Wide Receiver, but proved to be a dominant athlete on both offense and defense. His junior year he was awarded the team Offensive Player of the year. His senior year he was awarded Offensive and Defensive player of the game multiple times and was even awarded All-Around Best player of the game against Mountain Pointe.

In his off season, RJ enjoys playing in 7 on 7 tournaments and runs track. He currently holds Buena High School’s all-time fastest time for the 60 yard dash coming in at an incredible 4.6 seconds. Currently, RJ has offers to play college football at Hastings University in Nebraska, Dakota State University in South Dakota, and Arizona Christian University. He hasn’t decided on where he will attend yet, but is excited about taking his performance to the next level.

While RJ has many accomplishments on the field, off of the field RJ is actively involved in his church, Calvary Rock and has a heart to serve. His heart on and off of the field inspires athletes of all ages and demographics to actively pursue their dreams. RJ hopes to one day be in the NFL where he can continue to play the sport he loves.
