Annabelle Ramirez: From Lindsey Wilson College to signing to play pro softball in Italy
COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Ramirez family moved to Spencer County in 2018. Melissa had family from this area, and the family wanted to move out of the city. Their daughter, Annabelle Ramirez, was away at Lindsey Wilson College when they moved but was ecstatic because one of the reasons she chose Lindsey was because she was drawn to the appeal of the small town life there in Columbia, Kentucky. The family all love it here.
Annabelle played softball at Butler High School in Louisville (mostly shortstop/some pitching). She was recruited for 3rd base and committed to Lindsey Wilson College her sophomore year. She was courted by some other schools but couldn’t shake the love for the small town feeling she got at Lindsey. She quickly became a starting pitcher.
Below are some highlights of her college career:
- Mid-South Conference First Team All-Conference Freshman, Sophomore, and Senior years. (There were no conference awards her Junior year because of Covid.)
- Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week twice as Sophomore and seven times as Senior.
- 2019, 2021 Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year.
- Mid-South Conference All Academic Team Yearly.
- Lindsey Wilson “Best Performance in an Athletic Event” as a Sophomore for her perfect game against Breschia.
- 2019 NAIA 2nd Team All American.
- 2019 World Series All Tournament Team.
- 2019 World Series Appearance.
- 2021 NAIA 1st Team All American.
- 2021 NAIA CoSIDA Academic All American Team.
- 2021 House of Representatives Commonwealth of Kentucky Athletic Achievement Award.
- 2021 NAIA Strikeout Leader Per Game.
- 2021 ERA 1.11, 177 1/3 innings pitched, 306 Strikeouts
- Lindsey Wilson Top Ten of All Time for almost every pitching category
She was also the Assistant Coach for 16U Louisville Slugger Fast Pitch Travel Team (She coaches with her dad, brother, and previous travel team coach.). Her mom states, “This softball journey is very much a family thing that started when my husband started coaching my son’s t-ball team at Rockford Lane Youth Sports in 1999, while I was pregnant with Annabelle. She has never known a summer away from the ball field.”
Annabelle’s newest adventure begins March 15. Annabelle just signed a contract to play professionally for New Bollate Softball in Milan, Italy. Her summer contract will end just in time for her to come home and get married.
