Byron Nelson HS wrestling finishes with a program-record
TROPHY CLUB, Texas — It was an incredible year for Byron Nelson High School Bobcat Wrestling. In February, the Bobcats competed in the district tournament where the girls team finished 3rd and the boys were the District 2-6A Champions. Seventeen athletes qualified for Regionals, including:
G: Eden Spharler, Alyssa Ruiz, Hannah Vos, and Trinity Soria.
B: Jathan Cannon, Maddox Oakley, Justin Maricle, Jack McDonald, Jaime Careaga, Jett Gatlin, Garrett Harwood, Hunter Stenger, Hasnat Raza, Logan Mantezolo, Andrew Hanson, Keelene Bradley, and Josh Harris.
Coach Ornelas shares, “We are extremely proud of our entire team and the work they put in all year. We had a historical year with the most state qualifiers and medalists BNHS Wrestling has had. Our kids show a ton of heart and toughness all year, but especially in the last month. Many of them peaked right when they needed to and their focus and mentality were off the charts going into the postseason.”
In addition to the impressive results by the wrestlers, congratulations are in order for the hardworking Bobcat coaching staff. Their efforts were rewarded not only in their team results but in personal recognition as well. Their fellow district coaches voted them as coaches of the year!

A program-record eight wrestlers competed at the State Championship demonstrating the strength and depth of the Bobcat Program! Three competitors walked away with hardware. Congratulations to Wrestling State Placers:

Coach Ornelas notes, “we are losing an outstanding group of senior leaders this year who all were also part of our middle school wrestling program when they were there. We look forward to the offseason ahead and are extremely thankful for all the support from the school, families, and our community.”
