St. Helena Bocce: A tradition at Crane Park
SAINT HELENA, Calif. — For over 30 years St. Helena Bocce has been a tradition at Crane Park. However, for years prior to that 2 separate leagues, the St. Helena Bocce Club and Napa Valley Bocce Federation, had an intense feud that resulted in the City of St. Helena taking over the sport.
The St. Helena Parks & Recreation Department now manages more than 100 teams playing over 6 nights a week from May – November. The fun & competition continues through Harvest with an abbreviated Thursday Night Fall League. While the competitive vibe is afloat for many, most of the 2000 players report that they play for the camaraderie, which is illuminated in the world-class food and wine spreads enjoyed communally by many teams. While the pandemic limited some aspects of play, the Summer League will be returning in full swing this May!
