Q&A with members of the Putnam County HS wrestling team

EATONTON, Ga. — A Q&A with several members of the 2021-22 Putnam County High School wrestling team.

Q: When was this team first formed?
A: The team was formed in 2018-2019 season.

Q: As athletes, what are some rules the team lives by?
A: Always be at practice, encourage each other, and always be productive at practice.

Q: How would you describe this team?
A: Putnam County wrestling is a team filled with athletes of all sizes and backgrounds, but want to do better for themselves and their teammates.

Q: What makes this team unique?
A: We all have high expectations, but are also willing to learn from our failures and mistakes. We are a very supportive group, but also dedicated. As a whole we have given up our holidays to attend practice, matches and cut weight.

Q: Tell us about the team’s coach.
A: Coach Hutsell is a very dedicated, caring and motivational coach. He is also willing to help us grow in the best way possible. He wants us to know its okay to fail because you fail first in order to succeed.

Q: Describe some of the team’s training routine.
A: Coach Snowden does a great job with making practice fun. We not only focus on drilling, wrestling and conditioning, but we play games and team building activities like camp fire.

Q: What are some of the team’s greatest accomplishments?
A: In 2020 we took 2nd in the regional traditional and this season we took 2nd in the regional duals and the regional traditional tournaments.

Q: Tell us about one of the team’s best learning experiences.
A: On the way to our traditional region tournament this year one of our teammates did not make weight and it was a learning experience for all of the wrestlers. Accountability was the main theme. If you say you are going to do something, do it because actions speak louder than words.

Q; What does the team hope to accomplish in the coming year?
A: Moving forward the team would like to earn a trophy for every tournament and win both region titles next year.

Q: Favorite pregame song to listen to?
A: Wrestling is an individual sport so everyone listens to their own music. I would say hip-hop, country, medal and R&B are the most popular depending on the individual.

Q: Favorite post-game food to celebrate with?
A: Again, everyone is different in this aspect but steak, chicken wings, chocolate and potato chips seem very popular.
