South High’s Oliver Brown was born to be a baseball player
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — I’ve been watching Oliver Brown play baseball for as long as I can remember. I’ve traveled to watch him play in Cal Ripken tournaments in Baltimore, Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach and it was a thrill to watch his Abbott O Rabbit Little League All Star team compete in the Little League Regional Series in San Bernardino, CA at age 12. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, it would be worth your time to catch a South Anchorage High School baseball game this spring to see Brown and his high school teammates in action.
Brown will graduate from South High School in May with honors (3.8 GPA). In the fall he plans to attend College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA to play Division 1 baseball with the Crusaders in the Patriot League – as a pitcher and middle infielder.
At South, Brown has been a varsity player since his freshman year. Last year, he was part of the South High team that won the Alaska State Championship with a perfect season record (17-0). As a junior last season, Brown was a varsity team leader with a .408 batting average. He led the Wolverines with nine stolen bases, 1.095 OPS, 20 Hits, 20 RBI’s and scored 19 runs.
Since his freshman year, Brown has played summer baseball in Seattle, WA with Laces Baseball Academy and most recently with the Walla Walla Sweets. He has been a nationally ranked player by Perfect Game for three years and has been ranked the number one 2022 pitcher for the state of Alaska for four years.
Last fall, he was ranked the 7th overall 2022 top prospect for the states of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Alaska by Baseball Northwest. Brown also has played fall baseball under coach Tony Wylie with the Alaska Baseball Academy, competing at the Arizona Fall Classic each year. Last fall, he was invited by coach Wylie to play with the Langley Blaze at the 2021 Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, FL. This summer he will join the Langley Blaze to compete in the British Columbia Premier Baseball League.
