Woodgrove dealt first loss, falls to Menchville 55-33 in Class 5 state final

PURCELLVILLE, Va. — Woodgrove took on Menchville Friday night at the VCU stadium during the Class 5D State Championship. Woodgrove ultimately fell, 55-33, which ended their undefeated run on the season at 29-1.

Menchville started off the game on fire and took a 39-17 lead late into the second quarter. A three-point basket at the buzzer cut the lead to 19 at the halftime break. Menchville had a strong presence inside and a large production from their bench to help build the lead. Woodgrove missing a key starter in Ashley Steadman struggled to find an answer.

It proved to be not enough as Menchville continued to knock down shots. The Wolverines knowing they were facing defeat never gave up and continued to fight with grace and style the way they did all season.

Anni Rohs led in points for the Wolverines with 11, followed by Colette Bain with 10, Lisa Nice with 6, Tara Mullen with 6, and Sadie Shores with 3.
