Edgewood High’s Bob Jones to be inducted into Monroe County Sports HOF

ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. — For the past 36 years, Bob Jones has coached the Edgewood Mustangs baseball team. In addition to 884 games and 500 wins, Jones has won 11 conference titles, 11 sectional titles, 3 regional titles, 1 semi-state title, and finished runner-up in the 2019 Class 3A State Championship.

In addition to Jones’ numbers, he has coached several young men who have pursued their own dreams.  Former Ohio University head coach Rob Smith and pitcher Greg Granger (drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1991) are two notable student athletes who trained under Coach Bob Jones.  Coach Jones has also coached six Indiana All-Stars, including Andy Anderson, Scott Pedersen, Matt Newman, Jake Bauer, Ethan Vecrumba, and Luke Hayden.

He has twice earned the H-T All Area Coach of the Year and the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches District Coach of the Year honors in his 36 season career.

It was announced recently that Coach Jones has earned yet another honor; this time, he has been selected to join the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame class of 2022.  Induction ceremonies will be held at the Monroe County Convention Center on Friday, July 15, 2022, honoring Jones, among others.

The banquet and ceremony is open to the public, but you must register at www.monroecountyshof.org.
