COSTA MESA, Calif. — Each month, the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa recognizes and honors exceptional Scholar-Athletes from Estancia High School and Costa Mesa High School. The award recipients are not only leaders on the field, court, or pool, but also in the classroom.
On March 17, 2022, these stellar Scholar-Athletes were honored in a special Kiwanis award ceremony.
ESTANCIA HIGH SCHOOL
Kelly Bishop – Senior, Softball, GPA: 3.89
“I chose Kelly Bishop (or KJ as we call her) because of her outstanding efforts on and off the field. KJ is currently in 9 classes maintaining a 3.89 GPA to include softball. Last month, she was on a medical break from softball, but she still made sure to show up to every game cheering her team on and was appointed player’s coach due to her consistency and willingness to help. Her leadership skills on the field are top notch, she puts her all into the game, and consistently encourages the girls. She is definitely someone worth recognizing, and I am proud to coach such an exemplary student always going the extra mile.” – Coach Kasey Swartz
Tyler Humphries – Senior, Baseball, GPA: 4.45
“Tyler is a senior in the baseball program and having a great year on the field and in the classroom. Tyler has a GPA 4.45 while also participating in our ASB program, Boys Water Polo and Swim teams. In Baseball, Tyler is our starting left fielder and is hitting 0.550 with 8 runs and 6 RBIs. Tyler is an outstanding young man who you can count on giving a great effort and being a great teammate. He is well deserving of being the Kiwanis Athlete of the Month.” – Coach Nate Goellrich
COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL
MaryAnna Bijanjan – Senior, Softball, GPA: 4.0
“MaryAnna has been on the Varsity Softball team since her Freshman year, and she has grown as a player. She plays 2nd base and is a force to be reckoned with on the bases. She is so much fun to watch as she dives headfirst into the bases, and she gets on base often while hitting .625! We coaches love her attitude and willingness to continue to grow as a player.” – Coach Heather Orduna and Coach Doug Deats
Chris Hall – Senior, Baseball, GPA: 3.5
“Chris Hall is the starting centerfielder and pitcher on the varsity baseball team. He is the lead off hitter and makes things happen on the bases with his quickness and heads up play. Coach Kiefer says that he is a leader amongst his peers and well respected. He takes care of business in the classroom as well with a 3.5 GPA.” – Coach Jim Kiefer
