Q&A with Germantown’s top player, UConn WBB commit KK Arnold

GERMANTOWN, Wis. — Anyone who has been paying attention in the sports world has probably heard about Germantown’s powerhouse girls basketball player, Kamorea “KK” Arnold.

As a sophomore, KK led Germantown High School’s girls basketball team to their first ever state championship win against Hudson while scoring an impressive thirty one points. The 5’8” point guard has attracted recruiters from the biggest college programs in the country, including Duke, Marquette, North Carolina, Ohio State, Baylor, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Louisville.

This past November, however, KK announced her commitment to play for University of Connecticut, a program she has dreamed about since she was in third grade. KK played for the championship-winning U-16 US National Team in 2021 was honored with the prestigious Gatorade State High School Basketball Player of the Year for the past two years running.  Not resting on her laurels after the state championship win in 2021, she came back for her junior year and posted even stronger stats than the previous season.

I had a chance to chat with KK and get to know more about the girl behind the phenomenon, and here are some fun facts I learned!

Who is your biggest inspiration?

KK Arnold: My older sister, Myeisha, who also played basketball. I used to follow her around when I was younger and learned by hanging and watching her play basketball at the gym. I always looked up to her and wanted to be just like her.

What is your best memory of playing basketball at GHS so far?

Arnold: Definitely winning the state championship in 2021, but also just the opportunity to play with my teammates that year, and the things I was able to learn from them.

What is your favorite subject in school?

Arnold: Criminal Justice is a really interesting class- and we aren’t given too much homework!

If you weren’t a basketball star, what other sport would you play?

Arnold: Track and Field. Basketball takes up the entire year with AAU club play as well so it’s impossible to do it all.

Where is the best place you’ve ever traveled to?

Arnold: I traveled to Sweden playing basketball with a Blue Star traveling program and that was probably my favorite place I’ve visited.

What is your favorite restaurant?

Arnold: Chick-fil-A.

What do you love to do when you’re not playing basketball

Arnold: One of my favorite things is dancing.

What is your favorite type of music?

Arnold: R&B- both old school and the newer generation of today.

What advice do you have for younger players who aspire to follow in your footsteps?

Arnold: Keep working hard, stay hungry, and always be a student of the game- but don’t forget to make it fun and keep a smile on your face.
