Field of Dreams: 12U Recruits to take the field in Cooperstown
ROCHESTER, Mich. — Baseball is often referred to as America’s favorite pastime and some members of Recruits Baseball, a local nonprofit organization focused on developing young baseball players (8U – 16U) who compete at the highest levels against teams from across the state, play the game quite well – so well, in fact, that the 12U team will soon achieve a baseball player’s dream come true.
The 12U Recruits has a very special opportunity to play in a weeklong tournament this summer at Dreams Park in Cooperstown, NY, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Head coach, Vince Jesue, and assistant coaches Mike Brann, Shane Colwell, and Matt Goebel have helped make it possible.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime, Disneyworld-like experience for these boys, that they, along with their dads, have been dreaming about for years,” Coach Jesue said.
The 12U Recruits will compete against 100 other teams from across the country in a custom baseball facility providing a unique experience. The boys and their coaches will stay in barracks and focus on baseball all week long.
“Only select baseball organizations are invited to play at Dreams Park and the boys are ecstatic about this awesome opportunity,” Coach Jesue said.
The team is built from a core group of boys the greater Rochester area.
“What makes this team great is that they come from different middle schools but come together to form a strong team with a foundation dating back to 2018. Although they have no assigned Captain, they each look to each other for their unique strengths that help them compete with elite teams week in and out,” Coach Brann said. “Some lead with their actions, others by their voice, all of them lean on each other for their success. Baseball isn’t an individual sport, the entire team wins and loses together which makes holding each other accountable critical.”
Last season, Team 12U Recruits played in nine tournaments and took first place in four of them. This summer, the Recruits Baseball organization is hosting a memorial baseball tournament at Borden Park on July 15th-17th in honor of late Recruits coach Mike Peters who passed away last year.
Inquiries regarding the tournament can be made to Nick Machak at 248-709-4586.
