Decade-old vision becomes reality with new sand volleyball court at Satellite High
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Envisioned for over a decade, Satellite High Coach Daren Bolton’s vision finally became a reality on March 28, 2022, when Satellite High School’s Girls Beach Volleyball Program hosted its first match on the school’s 6 beautiful, new sand volleyball courts, the first project of its kind in the Space Coast.
Beach volleyball is ever-growing in popularity. It was officially sanctioned by the NCAA in 2015, with several of the top programs based in the Sunshine State. For the 2021-22 school year, the Florida High School Athletic Association welcomed beach volleyball to its list of sanctioned high school sports, with several area high schools, including Satellite High, already competing in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference.
With these sand courts, the school can host numerous matches and tournaments, as well as training for a variety of the school’s athletic programs at a safe, easily accessible, on-campus location. Additionally, through facility use agreements, the courts will be made available for use by area volleyball programs and other outside organizations.
As Coach Bolton watched the first matches on the new courts being played, he remarked, “This wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for so much support over the years from players, families and friends in the community.” Thank you to Satellite High School, Brevard Public Schools, and the numerous individuals and businesses in the community that donated their time and/or money to build and make these courts available for our children to play on for years to come!
