7th grader Lyla Beck excited to be playing for White Bear High’s hockey team

HUGO, Minn. — Lyla Beck, 13, started ice skating and playing hockey at the age of 5 through the White Bear Skate School and the White Bear Hockey Clinic. Currently the seventh grader plays for the White Bear High School Varsity team.

She has had a variety of coaches throughout her hockey career, one of them being her Dad. She enjoys meeting new people from different areas and traveling with her teammates to places such as Fargo, Nashville and Boston. The qualities needed for hockey are being able to work with different players and understanding the game. She is proud to have played in every game at varsity level and also earned an athletic letter in hockey. Her personal accomplishments are making the varsity team as a seventh grader, having a positive attitude and being a strong defender in front of the net.

Her most memorable moments with her teammates are their team trip to Grand Rapids in the fall of 2021, and Teacher Appreciation Night, January 2022, where the stands were full of fans from the community, and her teacher Mr. Bates was there to cheer her on. Her team has stayed competitive against many tough teams and have improved their record from previous years.

She thanks her family and coaches over the years for all the sacrifices they have made to let her play.

“Thank you for always supporting the decisions I’ve made to play hockey,” said Lyla. She hopes to continue to play hockey at a high school level year round and continue to improve in her play.
