Record-breaking Dylan Warlick, Edmond North ready to defend title
EDMOND, Okla. (BVM) — He’s only a sophomore, but Dylan Warlick is already making waves in Oklahoma.
Averaging 20.2 points and 10.4 rebounds, the 6-foot-5 forward capped off his sophomore season with a state title. It’s Edmond North’s second boys basketball state title.
“I felt amazing,” Warlick said. “Going into the season, everyone kind of doubted us. They didn’t think we’d be at state, let alone winning state or even being there [in the title game]. It felt to prove a lot of people wrong. It means a lot to me and to all the guys who come to work every single day.”
In the state title game, Warlick finished with 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. And along with the joy of winning a state championship, Warlick could celebrate a bit more as he broke Edmond North’s single-season scoring record with 581 points. Eric Randell set the record in 2010 with 559 points.

“Throughout the season, I never really thought about it,” Warlick said. “I’ve never thought about [breaking] a single-season scoring record. I never really thought I was close to it, really. I didn’t find out till I saw the Instagram post. It was pretty cool to break it.”

Now, along with a state title and a scoring record, Warlick is looking forward to playing basketball for the foreseeable future. And he credits his dad for getting him into the game he loves so much.
“I just started playing it [basketball] at four or five years old,” Warlick said. “But my dad got me into basketball. He always had me training, trying to get better. He definitely helped me fall in love with the game. I’ve been playing it [basketball] my entire life.”
That love and drive for basketball has carried over to the court. Edmond North head basketball Scott Norris has seen this firsthand.
“His effort and everything he does speakers louder than words,” Edmond North boys basketball head coach Scott Norris said. “Each day, he takes more of a leadership role and just his effort in the gym and the way he goes out and gets rebounds. … He does the dirty things on the floor, and the rest of the players respect that. They’re all pretty close, and that will help him [and all of them] moving forward.”
It was a memorable season for the Edmond North boys basketball team. The Huskies have to re-group for the upcoming season and get ready to defend their title.
“The good thing with this group of guys is that I know every one of them is going to work hard every single day,” Warlick said. “We don’t have one negative person on this entire team. All of us work hard and want to get better.”
The Huskies will be bringing back most of their group that captured that championship this year. It will be a tough test for the Norris’ squad, but with Warlick and others, there is no doubt that the Huskies can pull off back-to-back championships.
