Top finishers from 44th annual Chambersburg Half Marathon
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Chambersburg Half Marathon, which took place on March 19 this year, has been held every year since 1979, when it began during the first running boom in America. Hosted by the Chambersburg Road Runners Club (CRRC), the race draws in a diverse group of people each year, typically from the local area but also coming in from as far as Georgia and Texas.
This year’s top male finisher was Zane “Iggy” Chalker, coming in at 1:11:43. Nicknamed after famous musician, Iggy Pop, Chalker, age 19, graduated from Williamsport High School in Maryland in 2020, and is now a sophomore at Hagerstown Community College (HCC). In 2019, he was named the Maryland State 1A Cross Country Champion, and is a five-time Junior College All-American. Chalker’s records include running a mile in 4:19, a 5K in 14:49, and a “flatter” half marathon in 1:06:56. According to his Coach at HCC, Mike Spinnler, “Iggy is a great kid! Tough as a two-dollar steak.” Outside of college and running, Chalker works at his parents’ restaurant in Hagerstown, Rik’s Cafe.
Matthew Martino from Hanover, PA, followed Iggy in second place for males at 1:13:40, and Alex Pearson from Hummelstown, PA, placed third at 1:17:50.
This year’s top female finisher was Sarah Mihm, coming in at 1:30:47. Mihm, 32, originates from Winber, PA, and graduated from Shippensburg University in 2012. She ran for the university under guidance from Coach Steve Spence. For the past few years, her running resume includes participating in 5K races, as well as coaching track and other individuals. This spring, she plans on running in a full marathon in Pittsburgh, her first marathon since 2013 and only the second one she’s ever done. The half marathon in Chambersburg came at the right time, so she decided to participate. Mihm comments, “I always like to go by the motto RFG (Run For God), because He deserves the glory for every accomplishment and I could do none of it without Him.” When she’s not running, Mihm enjoys married life and spending time with her sons, Noah and Ezekiel.
Katie Fuller from Mechanicsburg, PA, followed Sarah in second place for females at 1:32:07, while Meghan Bolinger from Johnstown, PA, took third at 1:32:18.
