Liberty seniors Grace Allen & Spencer Blaine finish seasons on top
LIBERTY, Mo. — Senior Liberty swimmer, Grace Allen, finished her 2022 campaign with 499.34 points while punching her ticket to the Missouri State High School Activities Association Swimming and Diving State Championship. Allen wrapped up her four-year commitment to the Blue Jays Swimming and Diving program with four event entries, including: 200 Yard Medley Relay, 100 Yard Butterfly, 100 Yard Backstroke and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
“Grace brings an energy to the team that will be missed next year. She is very goal oriented and works extremely hard to reach those goals” said Liberty High School head Swimming and Diving coach Chris Murphy. “Her work ethic and sense of humor have been great to have on our team the last 4 years and those traits will take her far in life.”
Though Allen will be walking across the graduation stage soon, she will be staying close to home. She will be trading her Blue Jay feathers for those of a Cardinal as she will be a part of the William Jewell College swim team this fall.
Spencer Blaine
Senior Liberty men’s basketball player, Spencer Blaine, helped lead the Blue Jays to a 2nd place Class 6 District 8 finish. The 6’4 guard was a constant presence on the floor, shooting over 50% from the field, nearly 41% from beyond-the-arc, in addition to pulling down 85 rebounds on the year.
But his performance doesn’t stop when he walks off the court, “Spencer has many positive attributes. His positivity, energy, enthusiasm, and love for others makes a world of difference in his team, school, and community” said Liberty head men’s basketball coach Roger Stirtz.
Blaine also excels in the classroom as well. He was named a Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State selection this past year, holding a 33 score on the ACT and maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He is the 8th Blue Jay to be awarded with the honor since 2016.
