Top 10 Louisiana baseball players in the Class of 2022

BATON ROUGE, La. (BVM) — Some great baseball players have come from Louisiana. Players like Aaron Nola, Ben Sheets and Andy Pettitte. Now players from a newer generation are set to make a name for themselves.

Here are the top 10 players in Louisiana from the Class of 2022.

  1. Charles Green, P, Edna Karr

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds, Green brings a lot of what you want in a baseball player. He can compete at the plate and be a force on the mound. At the beginning of April, facing Easton High School, Green recorded a career-best 18 strikeouts. He can become a better ballplayer when he reaches Texas Southern University.

  1. Cardell Thibodeaux Jr., OF, Acadiana

Thibodeaux is a player who can provide a much-needed spark for whoever he is playing for. He will aim to do that at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound outfielder has the power to put the ball over the fence and enough speed to make game-changing plays in the outfield. He’s sure to be an electric factory when he suits up for the Warhawks.

  1. Brylan Green, OF/LHP, Lafayette Christian

Green is another player who can dazzle on the diamond. Green is already committed to Liberty University, where he will play baseball and football. He helped Lafayette Christian football to a state championship appearance this past season. Now the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Green will aim to lead the Bulldogs to a state championship in baseball before heading to Lynchburg.

  1. Caleb Stelly, OF, Parkview Baptist

Another outfielder who will be staying in Louisiana, Stelly can take the next step with the Ragin’ Cajuns. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Stelly can play any position you ask him to and excel at it. With an exit velocity of 100 mph, Stelly provides a lot of pop at the plate. When he reaches Lafayette, Stelly will be ready to help Louisiana-Lafayette win a Sun Belt title.

  1. Tyler Lejeune, SS, Iota

Standing at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Lejeune brings one of the more athletic builds to the diamond. A left-handed hitter, Lejeune can put the ball anywhere on the field. He has posted an exit velocity of 98 mph and has the strength to make strong and accurate throws. He also has the speed to beat out any throw after posting a 6.94 60-yard dash. Lejeune can improve significantly playing for the Arizona Wildcats next season.

  1. Luke Hill, SS, Episcopal

Hill is another prospect that will be heading to The Grand Canyon State. But Hill will be suiting for the Sun Devils. Hill stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 190-pounds but still can fly on the base paths. He posted a 6.79 60-yard dash. With an exit velocity of 99 mph and arm strength of 91 mph, Hill has the potential to be the next Dustin Pedroia. He can undoubtedly reach that potential in Tempe.

  1. Zeph Arnold, RHP, Sacred Heart Ville Platte

Perhaps one of Louisiana’s most slept on prospects, Arnold can blow any pitch by a batter. Arnold has three quality pitches in a fastball, curveball and slider. His fastball averages 94 mph. Arnold can also be efficient on the mound, only needing a limited number of pitches to get through an inning of work. He’ll aim to improve his skills at the College of Charleston.

  1. Ethan Frey, C, Rosepine

Frey may not be your prototypical catcher, but he is too good to pass up if your MLB team is looking for a catcher. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Frey has a pop time of about 2.01 seconds and can throw the ball 85 mph. He also does a little bit of pitching for Rosepine. But the highlight of Freys’ skill set is his hitting. With remarkable power, Frey can drive in runs when needed and give you clutch hits. Participating at the Super 60 event, Frey posted a 102 mph exit velocity. The LSU commit is sure to show off his skills in Baton Rouge.

  1. Harland Zeb Ruddell, OF, Neville

With an exit velocity of 100 mph, Ruddell is certainly another prospect that can help the LSU Tigers compete for a national championship. The 6-foot, 200-pound Ruddell will be teaming up with Frey and they’ll aim to form a scary lineup. Ruddell can also cover any position in the outfield. He posted a 6.69 60-yard dash. Ruddell can improve a lot by playing for Coach Johnson in Baton Rouge.

  1. Gavin Guidry, SS/RHP, Barbe

Playing for the best high school team in Louisiana has certainly helped Guidry. He excels on the mound for the Pirates and can be a dominant force in the batter’s box. His fastball has reached the mid-90s and can put away a handful of batters. Guidry can also hit when called upon. With an exit velocity of 93.2, his hitting shouldn’t be frowned upon. Guidry is also ranked No. 84 by Prospects Live. So before joining Ruddell and Frey in Baton Rouge, he is likely to hear from MLB clubs this summer. However, if those three can team up in Baton Rouge, they can arguably be the best trio in college baseball.
