Breaking swim team records as a Pine Creek sophomore
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Victor of both of his individual events, the 200-freestyle, and the 100-butterfly, James Schreiber from Pine Creek High School, has officially toppled the school record for the 200-freestyle. Schreiber is a sophomore at Pine Creek, and swims for his club team, the Falfins, and the Boys Pine Creek Swim Team. Although Schreiber did not swim any personal best times in the meet, he came in first for two of the four events he participated in, and his record-breaking time of 1:43.77 broke Pine Creek High Schools’ previous record of 1:44.94 by a full second. Other events Schreiber competed in include the 400-freestyle relay and the 200-freestyle relay. Schreiber is producing these times as a sophomore, so there are great things to expect out of this up-and-coming athlete.
When asked about his future goals, he replied, “My main goal in swimming is to compete for a Division 1 or Division 2 college.” This ambitious goal comes with many sacrifices, since a large time of his mornings and afternoons is devoted to swimming for his school team and his club team. “My plan for achieving this goal is to simply show up at practice every day,” he added. Schreiber practices around fourteen hours per week, and he started swimming when he was nine. The inspiration for his love of the sport of swimming came from his mom, who was also a swimmer. He concludes, “Overall, I just want to thank the host team and all of the athletes that competed for making it a fast and fun meet.”
