Holy Trinity’s lacrosse season: Brevard County history, repeat district champions

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Holy Trinity Boys Lacrosse team made history in Brevard County this season.  They were the first to beat an out of county team in regional play.  Prior to advancing to regionals, the Tigers repeated as district champions, Class 1A, District 7.  They defeated all Class 1A teams in Brevard with convincing wins and played many tough opponents outside our county.  The Tigers had an impressive 17-2 record.

The Tigers dominated in all areas of play.  Jackson Bean outperformed his competition in face-offs.  The offense had so much talent, one threat was as big as the next. Goal leaders were Dylan Gibson (45), Andrew Turner (41), and Jake Pagliarini (33).  Other offensive contributors included Mick McCarthy, Josh Romine, Julian Warden and Timmy Kelly.

Defense came up big in big games, locking off the opponents.  Jack Combs, nicknamed “the vacuum,’ had 75 ground balls and was a huge difference maker on the field.  Hudson Sanger and Chris Moore were enforcers on the field with 68 and 63 ground balls respectively.  Justin Cole was clutch in net with 169 saves (a 73% save average).  The defensive wall was rounded out by Brock Shoultz, Dexter Phipps, Jackson Schopke, and Griffin Brunger.

The Tigers ultimately lost in the regional semifinals to Monteverde Academy.  After getting out to a slow start, the Tigers went toe to toe with the Eagles.  Unfortunately, they could not make up for the early deficit.  “I’m proud of the boys and they way they played,” said Head Coach, Eric Marr.  “They played hard and never gave up.  We got to within two and they were fighting to the end.”

Jack Combs, a Division 1 commit to Vermont, said, “This season was huge for our program and huge for the county.  I’m proud to be a part of it.  We’ve just got to keep it going for next year.”
