Ponte Vedra T&F wins 1st regionals; sets 4 school records, 4 individual titles

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — Your Ponte Vedra Track and Field Sharks smelled Blood in the water and came to Hunt, resulting in PVHS’s 1st ever Track and Field 3A Regional Title as the Girls outlasted Region host Fort Walton Beach. The Boys team came in third, finishing just behind 1st Place Raines and runner-up Rickards.

The day started with the Field events in the Boys and Girls Shot Put, with Layne Swafford, Nathan Lebowitz, Caroline Huges, and Amelia Coker all placing in the event and Layne breaking a school record.

Freshman Phenom Katie Kelly broke her own freshman record in the Girls Pole Vault and finished in sixth place. In the Boys Pole Vault, Henry Gainer took the title while teammates Landen Scott and Morgan Clark went 4th and 5th, respectively.

In the Javelin, Henry Gainer broke his school record by nearly two meters. On the Girls side, Caroline Hughes finished in third place and advanced onto the State Meet.

In the Girls High Jump, Megan Grant tied for 7th, earning needed points for the team, while Nathan Lebowitz earned his first Regional Title.

The Distance Boys and Girls scored massive points from the 4 x 800 as the Girls team of Sofie Trejo, Sofia Bushkell, Daisy Ross, and Lindy White got valuable second-place points. The Boys team of Grant Doherty, Andrew Hoffman, Davis Brown, and Quinn Remisiewicz had a strong run and finished 3rd, advancing to State.

In the first running event of the evening, nationally ranked Heptathlete and Co-Captain Amelia Coker won the 100 Hurdles while Adrienne Edwards finished 4th and set a freshman record. Senior Chris Leveille finished with a much-needed 7th place finish.

In one of the most exciting races of the evening, sophomore assassin Lindy White won the Girls 1600M and broke Claire Moritz’s school record, while teammate and freshman Daisy Ross placed 8th.

The 300 Hurdles paid big dividends, especially for the girl’s side, as Amelia Coker broke her own school record, finishing second! Wyatt Rogers garnered 8th place points and in the 800m, Lindy White fought tooth and nail but just came up short, finishing second.

On the distance side, Ellie Moritz dominated the Girls 3200M, winning, while Sofia Bushkell had a solid 4th place finish. Grant Doherty and Davis Brown ran extremely hard on the boys’ side, with Doherty finishing 5th and qualifying for State in the process, while Brown picked up valuable 7th place points!

In the last race of the night, the girls needed to stay within one scoring point of Fort Walton Beach in the 4 x 400 relay, and with the hard nose running from Amelia Coker, freshman Breah Ursy, Anouk Victor, and anchor Mia Chigounis did just that finishing 5th just behind Fort Walton Beach to claim the title as 3A Region One Team Champions!

The boys closed out the night with their 2nd best showing of the season as the team of Josh Osborne, Jarrell Jimenez, Tariku Hammons, and anchor Wyatt Rogers took 6th place and All-Region Honors.

Stay tuned for the results of the final meet of the season, the FHSAA 3A State Championship!!
