Cheering for Traxtyn Finney on the Alexandria softball field

ALEXANDRIA, La. — I still remember it like it was yesterday, the first time my little blonde haired, blue eyed girl with pigtails and a glove that looked way to big for her little hand, ran out onto the softball field! Most of the other 5 year old girls were dancing around in circles or picking flowers and grass in the outfield. Instead, Traxtyn Finney ran straight to her spot on 2nd base, bent over with her hands on her knees, waiting intently for the ball to be hit. Whenever the ball was hit, she would run wherever the ball went on the field to scoop it up and try to tag the runner. I had a feeling from that first day watching Traxtyn play that she had found her sport!

Oh boy was I right! Traxtyn went on to play All-Stars for her first year in T-Ball and I feel like she hasn’t stopped playing year around since! Here we are twelve years and, many school, summer league and travel ball teams later, still watching my girl play the sport she loves. The countless hours of long hot practices, strength training, batting lessons and drills have refined her knowledge of and skill for the game of softball!

I am sure that if you asked her what her favorite part of playing softball has been, she would say the life-long friendships she has built. Most of the girls she currently plays with on the Alexandria High School Lady Trojans Softball team, have been on at least 1 of her prior teams! I have loved watching how playing softball has taught her many valuable lessons in life: teamwork, sportsmanship, and how to always support your teammates 100%

Traxtyn has been a member of the Lady Trojans Softball team since she started ASH her freshman year. What an amazing year this season has been for a very talented group of young ladies! So far this year, the team has gone 5-2 in district play and are hoping for a spot in this year’s playoffs!

Her main position has always been second base, however, she also will cover right field at times for her team. She recently hit an out of the park homerun for her Trojans team, the 5th of her high school career! I am beyond grateful to all the coaches that have been a part of molding Traxtyn into the amazing young lady and softball player she has become. Her current ASH head coach, Taylor Belgard, along with the help of Lance Carruth and Brian Thompson have been the best instructors, supporters and cheerleaders for my sweet girl; I am so thankful she has been so blessed to have them in her life!
