Mountain View’s Brooke Geling sets sights on drag racing
LOVELAND, Colo. — Brooke Geling is currently busy, in addition to her high school course work, with classes she’s taking at Front Range Community College in Automotive Technology Services.
Last semester it was brakes, tires and alignment. This semester it’s engines, electricity, oil changes, transmissions and gears. Geling is surprised at how much fun the classes are and how quickly she is catching on.
The truth is, she just may have all things automotive in her DNA. She grew up around the track watching her dad drag race on weekends. In fact, one of her earliest memories is of taking a nap by the starting line. While jet cars were racing! Yes, those super fast super loud cars that run on jet fuel were zooming past as her five-year-old self peacefully slept.
When Geling realized she could race … that’s all she wants to do! She’s been strategic about it, waiting until she was old enough to have her own car. Hopefully her turn in high school drags is coming soon, if not this season, perhaps next season. Cars and the love of cars is something special she shared with her dad, Freddy Geling, who passed away recently.
“My dad really loved racing and it made him happy that I love cars so much,” Brooke said. “So actually, I’ll be doing something I love and honoring my dad at the same time when I race.”
In the meantime she and her Red 1995 Mustang participate in the Northern Colorado Mustang Car Club (NCMCC).
“It is my favorite thing to go to meetings, get together and talk,” Brooke said. “They are really great people. I learn so much and although I am the youngest person there, we all get along and have fun.”
