Satellite girls lacrosse has one of the most successful seasons in history
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — 2022 marks an exhilarating and notable year for Lady Scorpion Lacrosse. The girls played to a 17-3 record which included a district championship (2nd year in a row) over rival Edgewood High School, and a regional quarterfinal win over Lake Wales High School. Senior captains Mackenzie Carr, Frankie Simpson, and Taylor Ward – along with a team of veteran players including seven seniors – provided the necessary leadership and motivation for one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history.
Statistically, the Lady Scorpions were among the best in the state. The team ranked 4th in class 1A in total goals and 9th in Florida. More impressively, the girls ranked 1st in the entire state in assists. Individually, junior midfielder Maeve Chamberlin led the district in goals and ranked 7th in the state. Three other players, Carys Steckler, Hana Prudente, and Taylor Ward were among the top ten goal scorers in the district. Six Lady Scorps were included in the top ten in assists led by attacker Erin Hayslip, Chamberlin, and Mackenzie Carr. Defensively, the team was led by goalie Paige Shepherd and defenders Lianne Williams, Lauren Delhomme, Ivey Knight and Koral Fisher. This group allowed a district low 6.4 goals per game.
In all, the coaches, parents, and school could not be prouder of the accomplishments of this wonderful group of young ladies. Though the seniors will be greatly missed, they are surely headed for further successes in life. As for the future of the program, all shines brightly. 2022 was the first year in ten years with a junior varsity program. This group went 6-1 for their season. These young ladies, along with returning players, will ensure that the successes of 2022 will continue forward.
