COSTA MESA, Calif. — Each month, the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa recognizes and honors exceptional Scholar-Athletes from Estancia High School and Costa Mesa High School. The award recipients are not only leaders on the field, court, or pool, but also in the classroom.
On May 19, 2022, these stellar Scholar-Athletes were honored in a special Kiwanis award ceremony.
ESTANCIA HIGH SCHOOL
Mailee Blanchard: Senior, Beach Volleyball, GPA: 4.21
“I am thrilled to nominate Mailee Blanchard for this award, it was an honor to watch her grow throughout the beach volleyball season. While she competed in beach volleyball, she also excelled in the classroom by completing her work and maintaining a high GPA. She went straight from soccer season and into the sand of beach volleyball season without skipping a beat. Mailee is a supportive teammate and a very coachable player. She does a great job of balancing competition, sportsmanship, and joy in her sports and school! Mailee is very deserving to be recognized as an outstanding student athlete and a representative of Estancia High School.” -Coach Katie Goto
Jack Moyer: Senior, Baseball, GPA: 3.83
“Jack Moyer is a Senior captian on the Estancia Baseball team, and carries a 3.83 GPA this school year. He is also a key member of our link crew on campus. Jack plays shortstop and bats lead off for our team that won Estancia’s historic first CIF Southern California Division V regional championship! In the fall, Jack injured his knee and he worked hard to rehab and make it back near the start of our season. He is the definite leader of the program, as the players look up to him for advice and guidance. Jack is a great representative of the Estancia community both on the field and in the classroom.” -Coach Nate Goellrich
COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL
Maddie Stein: Junior, Swimming, GPA: 4.2
“Maddie is a junior and has taken the league by storm with her swimming performance. She was league Champion in the 100 back and the 50 free. She was also a member of the 200 and 400 free relay team that placed first in league. Maddie was named the Orange Coast League MVP for her efforts. She qualified for CIF in the 100 back and the 50 free. She was ranked 10th in the back stroke and finished 8th place overall. In the 50 free she was seeded #13 and finished 12th. Her 400 free relay team qualified for CIF as well, and they placed 24th overall. Maddie is a true leader on the team and her hard work ethic is apparent not only in the pool, but also in the classroom where she is sporting a 4.2 GPA. I look forward to seeing what she does next year in the pool.” -Coach Keith Ryan
Luke De La Jara: Freshman, Swimming, GPA: 4.0
“Luke De La Jara is only a freshman, but his attitude and outlook in the pool sets the tone for the rest of the swimmers. Luke was the Orange Coast League’s 50 and 100 free Champion. He qualified for CIF in the 100 free where he was ranked 32nd going in. Luke pushed himself and stepped up to the plate on race day and finished 16th overall. His 400 free relay team was league champs and they qualified for CIF. Unfortunately, they did not move on to the finals. Luke is also a student athlete with straight A’s and a 4.0 GPA. Luke is also a starter on the varsity water polo team and his future is bright in both sports!” -Coach Keith Ryan
