Maine South golfer Ryan Belz swings for success
PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Ryan Belz, a junior at Maine South High School, started playing golf at 12 years old when he joined his friends at a golf camp. His skills progressed impressively and he recently finished in 8th place at the Dan Batka invitational, helping his school finish in 4th out of 23 schools. He is currently focused on his goal of becoming a scratch golfer by the time he graduates, shooting par or under consistently.
Belz was coached by Coach Young his freshman and sophomore year and more recently worked with Coach Kwiatkoski for his junior year. Belz comments that his coaches are always supportive and encouraging and offer great guidance on the course.
“I like that golf requires a lot of thinking and concentration. I stay involved in the sport because every shot is different and I am always trying to beat my previous score and get better,” tells Belz. “My biggest inspiration in athletics is competing against other teams and people. I like competing because it keeps me motivated to try and get better.”
Belz looks up to pro-golfer Tiger Woods. “He is very inspirational. Tiger Woods has recovered from numerous injuries and still battled back and played at the highest level of golf possible.”
