Ramapo’s two-sport captain Robbie Travers a force on the field

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — When opponents saw Robbie Travers on the high school gridiron and  lacrosse field they knew they are facing a talented and imposing figure.

“I am 6’ 6” tall and weigh 205 lbs,” said Robbie. “I bench press 225 lbs and can squat 315 lbs

Robbie was the Captain of both the football and lacrosse teams at Ramapo High School.

He played outside linebacker and receiver on the football team and defense on the lacrosse team.

His stats for 2021-2022 football season included 26 receptions, 6 touchdowns and 449 yards.

“I also had two sacks,” said the 2022 graduate.

Robbie said he is thankful for the advice Coach Drew Gibbs offered the team.

“Coach Gibbs told us to put our heads down and do your job,” said Robbie. “I thank him for instilling such good values in me.”

Robbie took that advice to the sectional championship game against Northern Highlands High School where he contributed a touchdown.

“That game came down to the wire and we lost but we all played our heart out in that game,” said Robbie.

Robbie must have inherited his athleticism from his parents.

His dad Rob played football at Ridgewood High School and mom Patty was a member of the tennis team and a pitcher on the softball team at Cresskill High School.

“It was great when Ramapo played Ridgewood and I scored two touchdowns and 180 yards,” said Robbie. “It was a full circle moment for my dad and me.”

Robbie says his most memorable lacrosse game was when he was called up to play on the varsity team when he was a freshman.

“It was a NJ sectional championship game against Summit and it is something I will never forget.”

Robbie is planning on adding to his collection of memorable games when he joins the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, “Gorillas” lacrosse team.

“I am exited to be able to play lacrosse in college,” said Robbie.

It’s not a toss-up which is his favorite sport … football or lacrosse.

“I love that lacrosse is a fast paced and free flowing game,” said Robbie.

Robbie says he appreciates and extends a “thank you” to his football coaches that include Brian Gibbs, Mike Esposito, Nick Guttuso, Chris Anzano, Scott Finan, Matt Occhipinti, Josh Resto, Michael Graff, Josh Braen, Chris Bultman, Eric Knight, John Albanese, and  Marty Magerko.

“I want to thank my lacrosse coaches, Andrew Hubschmann, Keith Lizzi, Byron Collins, Bill Zachman, Jack Landel, James Cramer,  Mike Copelton and Tom Albano on helping me to get to where I am now,” said Robbie.

There are two more people Robbie wants to thank before he heads to college.

“I want to thank my parents for loving me, attending my games, driving me to practices and washing my stinky clothes,” laughs Robbie.
