SACRAMENTO, Calif. On the hit Netflix show, it was learned that Highler was at ELAC after a short stint at UTEP. People became fans of his relationship with Kiera Trusk, and according to Trusk’s Instagram, the couple celebrated their three year anniversary last November. They also learned about the loss of his parents and his desire to get back to Division I basketball.

Once at ELAC, he quickly became the starting point guard for the Huskies and was one of the best players on the team along with Joe Hampton. He was the captain of the East Los Angeles College Huskies during the show, averaging 12.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals.

Highler played every game during his two years with ELAC and helped the Huskies to a 53-6 record during that span. In his sophomore year, ELAC made it all the way to the CCCAA Championship quarterfinals before Covid ended the season.

Following his sophomore season with the Huskies, the Last Chance U star got back to DI basketball by joining Sacramento State University.

Highler played 22 games for the Hornets over two seasons. He averaged 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He also was one of the first college athletes to start his own brand and sell merchandise under the NIL rules, using his popularity and following from the show to help him launch his brand.

Now Deshaun Highler looks to continue his playing career at a new university and will likely make a decision on where he will play basketball this fall over the summer.
