Red Deer’s Casey Albert looks forward to first season with Calgary Dinos
RED DEER, Alberta — Casey Albert, a receiver for the Hunting Hills Lightning football team, has been signed by The University of Calgary Dinos.
Casey, who was named offensive player of the year in 2021, is excited about being signed with the Dinos and is looking forward to the next season.
The 17-year-old has been playing football for seven years and loves the sport.
“My goal is to eventually play for the CFL,” he said. “But in the meantime, I want to be the best student athlete I can be.”
Since May, Casey has been battling a knee injury which required surgery. He is still rehabilitating from the painful injury but is determined to press on.
Throughout the years Casey says he has received excellent advice, but one piece of advice that was particularly meaningful came from Kyle Sedgwick, the head coach of Hunting Hills Lightning football team.
“You don’t want to be just a guy that plays football, you want to be a football player,” he said.
Throughout his playing career Casey has learned to move on from his mistakes, instead of dwelling on them.
“If I dwell on them, it keeps me stagnant, it’s best to brush it off, move on and stay focused.”
Being a member of a team has taught Casey a great deal.
“It has taught me to not put myself before others and always consider the well being of the group,” he says. “And how to be a good leader.”
When Casey is not on the football field, he enjoys spending time with friends, skiing, basketball, and kayaking.
But, for Casey Albert, football is a priority and with a new season with the Dinos to look forward to, one can be sure that priority is not going to change.
