Union gymnast, Illinois commit Olivia Coppola reaching new heights

UNION, Ky. — Union resident Olivia Coppola set high goals for herself at the beginning of her gymnastics season, and she succeeded beyond her own expectations. Olivia placed in the top two All Around at every regular season meet from January to March. With the highest All-Around score, she was selected to represent her level 10 team in the Showdown at our home meet, Coaches Spectacular. At the last invitational, Olivia scored a personal best of 9.95 for her floor routine. She is the current Ohio State All-Around champion and placed second All Around at Regionals where she qualified to compete at Nationals.

All the hours in the gym recently paid off for her at Developmental Nationals in Phoenix, AZ, where she placed 4th in the All Around and qualified for the DP National Team. Olivia was also named to the Region 5 All Star Team which is made up of the top gymnasts in our region (OH, KY, IL, IN, MI). This was her main goal, and she will be participating in an international trip in the fall with the members of this team.

Olivia trains at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy (CGA) in Fairfield, OH, for 22 hours per week. She practices during the day, so she attends a public online school through BAVEL online and just completed her junior year. When she’s not in the gym, she can be found baking, horseback riding, boating, babysitting, or shopping. For now, Olivia is excited to enjoy every moment of her summer, and of course, set some more high goals for her senior season.

Olivia recently committed to the University of Illinois on a full ride athletic scholarship. She cannot wait to represent the Fighting Illini!
