Ohio State Buckeyes baseball hires TCU coach Bill Mosiello
COLUMBUS, Ohio (BVM) – After announcing the team was moving on from head coach Greg Beals, the Ohio State University baseball team conducted a large search for its next baseball manager. On Thursday the program announced the search was completed as they welcomed Texas Christian University associate head coach Bill Mosiello as the team’s new leader.
“I am incredibly excited to lead the Ohio State baseball program,” Mosiello said in a press release. “I have been blessed to have had a lot of great experiences throughout my career, and the opportunity to come to such a prestigious school like Ohio State and work with tremendous student-athletes and staff is something I am truly excited about. I want to thank Shaun Richard and Gene Smith for putting their trust in me.”

Mosiello comes to Columbus with a strong resume, both recently and over the course of his more than 35 years in the baseball world. Mosiello has coached at the collegiate and minor league level since 1987 when he began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Cerritos College in 1987. From there, Mosiello coached with nine Division I programs, seven of them being Power 5 schools, and four MiLB teams with his most recent stint being a nine-year tenure at TCU, the longest in his career.
During his time with the Horned Frogs, Mosiello helped the program reach a number of grand successes including seven Big 12 titles, seven NCAA Tournament appearances and four consecutive appearances in the College World Series from 2014 to 2017.
“A part of my heart will always be in TCU,” Mosiello continued. “The last nine years were truly special and the relationships that I made with the players and staff will be part of my life forever.”
Over the course of his coaching career, Mosiello has coached over 90 major league players and teams he’s been a part of have made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances and five College World Series appearances. Perhaps the best known pupil of Mosiello is Los Angeles Angels’ star and AL MVP Mike Trout, whom he coached during two years in the Angels’ minor league system from 2009 to 2011.
With a wealth of successes that includes nearly 400 minor league victories, Mosiello helped the Horned Frogs become one of the more explosive offenses during his time with the program. TCU led the Big 12 in batting twice, averaged 56 home runs over the last five full seasons and ranked second among Power 5 schools with more than 800 stolen bases from 2014-22 including breaking the 100-stolen base mark four times.
“Bill is a great leader and one of the most respected coaches in collegiate baseball,” senior vice president & Wolfe Foundation endowed athletic director Gene Smith said in the team press release. “He’s passionate about the game and his players, and I look forward to him bringing his energy to Ohio State.”
The Buckeyes will look to take their game to another level under Mosiello. After going 346-288-1 with two Big 10 tournament championships and three NCAA Regional appearances under Beals, Ohio State is aiming for even greater success under their new leader. After finishing this past season just 20-30, seeing moves in a positive direction would be a huge win for the Buckeyes.
Given his vast knowledge of the game and decades of experience, Mosiello seems to be a great fit for an Ohio State program looking to rebound. With Mosiello now at the helm, expect the Buckeyes to quickly return to their competitive ways on the baseball diamond.
