Get to know Briar Woods football player, rising sophomore Colin Capistrant

ASHBURN, Va. — Colin Capistrant was born in Reston, VA and has always lived in the Broadlands area with his parents, brother, Lucas, and three cats. Colin first started playing i9 flag football when he was four years old and then transitioned to American Youth Football League (AYFL) Ultimate Flag (helmets and shoulder pads). In fifth grade, he joined a tackle football team, the Evergreen Hammers, and played with them for three seasons.

In November 2019, he tried out and made the team for Football University (FBU) Virginia. “For the first time in team history, we won the FBU National Championship Atlantic Regional Tournament and advanced as 1 of 8 teams to the FBU National Championship Finals in Naples, FL,” Colin shares. “It’s been a highlight of my football career.”

Colin’s 4th fall season (8th grade) was canceled due to COVID, but he was able to play during the spring of his 8th grade year with the War Eagles which helped prepare him for high school football.

This past school year, Colin, freshman at Briar Woods, played offense and defense for the freshmen team; the Falcon’s freshmen team went undefeated for the first time in 10 years! He went on to end the season as a starter on Varsity for the Briar Woods Falcons.

“I persevered through a couple of injuries that kept me off the field for part of the season,” he describes. “It felt good to have some success when I came back and scored my first Varsity touchdown against Woodgrove fall 2021.” Colin ended his freshman season receiving the 2021 Freshman Offensive MVP Award.

This spring, Colin competed in tournaments up and down the East Coast with the Virginia Spartans (7v7); and will be playing in four tournaments at colleges during the month of June.

He also played Varsity Lacrosse as a midfielder for the Briar Woods Falcons. “This is my first season playing lacrosse and it’s been a fun sport to learn,” he says. As a sophomore, Colin, 15, will play on the Varsity Football team as a wide receiver and safety.

When he isn’t on the field, he enjoys playing golf, fishing, and this past spring, he got his first job as a referee for AYFL Ultimate Flag. “I now have a different perspective of the game and it’s been great to earn some money,” he says.

One thing Colin has learned from his years in sports is “You’re only as good as the work you put in. Competing at a higher level in sports takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice,” he shares. “I’d like to continue to play football in college and study to become an engineer or architect.”

Colin is also a member of the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL), assisting and serving those in need in his community while developing leadership skills during his four years in high school.
