Crown Point softball end season in Semistate after Regional championship
CROWN POINT, Ind. — Despite an excellent pitching effort by the Lady Bulldogs, Penn’s Aubrey Zachary shut down the Crown Point offense with a sparking no-hitter, 1-0, ending their successful season at the Harrison (West Lafayette) Semistate.
Zachary struck out 16 in earning the victory, while Crown Point sophomore Kendra Steinberg and senior Brinkley Kita combined to strike out five while only allowing one run on five hits.
Crown Point earned their way to the State Semistate bracket with a hard-fought Regional Championship win over Lake Central, 2-1. Kita was the winning pitcher in the Duneland Conference rematch and helped her cause with the bat, hitting a go-ahead home run.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with an 18-14 record and an 11-3 mark, ranking third in their conference. Leading the way was Steinberg with a 2.76 ERA and shortstop Emily Phillips, team leader in most hitting categories, including a .565 OBP and eight home runs.
