Ahman Green could be joined atop Packers RB hierarchy
GREEN BAY, Wis. (BVM) – Ahman Green left the Green Bay Packers as the best running back in Packers’ history, but Aaron Jones could catch up to Green with a stellar 2022 season. The Nebraska back finished his time in Green Bay with 8,322 yards and 54 touchdowns on 1,851 rushing attempts. Green also racked up another 14 receiving touchdowns and 2,726 receiving yards.
He is the Packers’ all-time leader in rushing attempts and rushing yards. Green is second all-time behind Green Bay legend Jim Taylor in rushing touchdowns and is fifth in total touchdowns.
Green came to the Packers from the Seattle Seahawks in 2000. The Seahawks had drafted Green in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft. After two seasons, Seattle sent him and a fifth–round pick to Green Bay for a sixth–round pick and Fred Vinson.
The Omaha native found his place in Green Bay and during his six years with the Packers, he made it to four straight Pro Bowls. He then signed with Houston after the 2006 season but injuries cut his time with the Texans after two years and he finished his NFL career with the Packers in 2009.
Since then, Green has done a deep dive into esports. He hosts a podcast, Ahman Green’s Gamer Lounge, that goes over all the latest news in the gaming world. He has also been the head coach of Esports at Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin since 2020.

Green’s career netted him $33,145,001, according to spotrac.com, leading to his current net worth being $11 million. He left Green Bay with a permanent spot in Packers’ fans heart. But Green Bay’s current running back, Aaron Jones, who is already a fan favorite, could do a lot of catching up this season.
Jones has been one of the offensive stars for the Packers along with Aaron Rodgers and former Green Bay wide receiver Davante Adams. Over his five seasons with the Packers since they drafted him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Jones has racked up 4,163 rushing yards, 1,448 receiving yards and one Pro Bowl.
Green Bay believed in Jones enough to sign him to a four–year, $48 million deal after the 2020 season and now he will definitely earn his money this season.
With Davante Adams leaving for Las Vegas, the Packers’ wide receiver core has lost arguably the best wideout in the NFL. Even with Rodgers at QB, the Packers’ offensive strengths lie in their backfield.
Jones, and third–year back AJ Dillon, should have busy seasons behind a talented offensive line which sets him up to catch up to Green.
Jones won’t catch Green this season in rushing yards – he should pass Tony Canadeo (4,197) and John Brockington (5,024) – but he does have a shot to reach Green’s touchdown numbers. Jones has 41 rushing touchdowns and 12 receiving touchdowns, meaning he is 13 rushing and two receiving touchdowns away from tying Green.
Sharing time with Dillon will affect Jones’ chances but with three more years on his contract, there is a good chance Jones will be right up there with Green when it comes to great Packer running backs.
