Catching up with Shelton alum, University of Texas soccer player Trinity Byars

DALLAS — Add another entry to the international resume of University of Texas sophomore forward Trinity Byars (Shelton Class of 2021).

She was named to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which was played Aug. 10-28 in Costa Rica. Previously, she was selected to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team roster for the 2022 Sud Ladies Cup held in Aubagne, France, June 16-29.

USA beat host France, 3-1, in its opening game with Byars breaking a 1-1 tie in the second half with goals in the 52nd minute. She scored another goal when Team USA beat Mexico on June 26. The USA team won the Sud Ladies Cup after beating the Netherlands June 28.

Byars has extensive experience with the U.S. Women’s National Teams from the U-14 through U-20 levels, while having traveled throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Central America and North America.

She was the youngest player on the roster for the United States at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay and was part of the U.S. U-20 squad that secured the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

At UT, Byars is interested in studying Applied Movement Science. In August 2022, she was voted to the 11-member 2022 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

In 2021, Byars led the Longhorns with 12 goals (third in the Big 12) to go with 10 assists for a squad-best 34 total points (tied for second in the Big 12).

At Shelton, Byars did not play soccer, but ran track and played basketball. She was a 2018-19 TAPPS All-State and All-District First Team selection in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4×100-meter events as well as the TAPPS Running Events MVP.

During the 2017-18 girls basketball season, Byars was named the District Freshman of the Year after totaling 189 points, 109 rebounds, 128 assists (top 10 in Dallas-Fort Worth) and 130 steals.

In 2020. The Dallas Morning News called Byars a soccer prodigy and reported she was one of the nation’s top two recruits in the Class of 2021.

She spent time in 2019 training alongside World Cup players with world-renowned professional franchises – Manchester City and Spain’s Atletico Madrid.
