Get to know Ashley Ridge football head coach Shane Fidler

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — The Ashley Ridge High School football team is lead by your fellow West Summerville neighbor, Shane Fidler. His wife, Emilee, is the ARHS head cheerleading coach, and they have one son, Wynn. Shane has been the head coach for two years and is already making a lasting impact in both the lives of his players and the football program.

Coach Fidler grew up playing football and began his coaching career while he was a student at USC. This fall is his 14th year of coaching.

Fidler’s biggest life lesson he has learned so far from coaching is one we can all learn from—“Adversity will always strike! How you handle the adversity is what is important.” This lesson has also influenced his coaching, in the way he and his coaching staff encourage the team after a disappointing loss. Fidler shared: “First we let the players know that we love them, then we find out how we can all improve, (coaches and players) then applying that to the next game.”

To date, Coach Fidler’s most memorable Ashley Ridge Football moment was beating Summerville in 2021. Each year the team goal is to hang a new banner up at the school, and each memorable victory spurs them on to make new ones and achieve their goals. On the flip side, his proudest moments are not based on wins or losses. As he shared: “My proudest coaching moment is always when our players graduate high school. In my two years at AR, we’ve had 12 players make a commitment to play football at the next level, but without graduating they cannot get there.”

For a coach, leaving a lasting and positive legacy is important. Head Coach Fidler truly desires to give his best to help his players not only succeed in the game, but in life. “The legacy I want to leave is that we prepared our student-athletes for life through the game of football.”

Thank you Coach Filder for your leadership and impact. Here’s to a great season! Go Foxes!
