Former Minnesota Twin Joe Mauer returns to American Century Championship

Former Minnesota Twin Joe Mauer returns to American Century Championship

STATELINE, Nev. — Born and raised in Minnesota, Joe Mauer was a generationally talented catcher and an even better person. Mauer had a career batting average of .306 through 15 seasons with the Minnesota Twins spanning from 2004 to 2018. Joe began playing in the American Century Championship in the summer of 2019.

During the 2022 tournament, Mauer tied for 48th place with a Stableford score of 7. “Everything” keeps drawing Joe back to this special tournament. “There’s a great group of people who put it [this tournament] on. We’re here to raise money. I always tell everyone: there’s very few places I’ll leave Minnesota on July 4, but this [Lake Tahoe] is one of them.” Since Joe’s retirement, he claims that he’s been busier than he was during his playing days. “I played the game for 20 years and there’s a lot of things you couldn’t do at that time.” He says that he’s spending the majority of his time with his young kids.

The Mauer family resides in Minnesota where they’re spending a lot of time together. Joe’s response as it pertains to coaching was “nothing on the radar right now. I never say never. I’m enjoying the kids and some of the things I’m into right now. We’ll see what happens.” Even though Joe Mauer was an exceptional player and a Twins legend, he can be described as an even better person. His calm demeanor and friendly individuality, makes it hard to find Joe turning a fan down for an autograph or photo opportunity.

Not only is Joe Mauer a well-known figure in the baseball world, but his cousin, Ken, is a long tenured NBA basketball referee. Obviously, The Mauer family definitely has some athletic genes and we expect to see more of that in the future from the Minnesotans.
