Football and Relationships

Jordan truly loves the game of football! It’s the camaraderie and family the football creates that have really become a part of who he is as a person. He values the intimate relationships that are established and the ability to really get to know people- and learn how he can help those people that have become a part of his life.

“Getting to know you kinds of things” mean the most to Jordan.

Some of his best friends to this day- are guys he played with in high school with- even more so than Penn State or NFL days.

Mentors

Jordan is blessed to have had many mentors and influences to his development. The mentors that he discussed are from three different stages of his life.

His dad, Larry Hill, has had the biggest influence on his life. Jordan has watched his dad bravely face several illnesses, and Jordan appreciates the way that he and his sisters were always provided for. Despite Larry Hill’s own battles—he always looked out for his kids first. His dad has been very strong in fighting for what his family needs, and he remains brave and positive throughout his challenges.

Jordan knew Jermaine Chisholm when he was younger, but really reaped the benefits of this relationship as he grew older and more able to really LISTEN to him. Transitioning from high school to college was when this relationship become more significant. Jordan realized as he got older, what Jermaine was saying—was very true. Jermaine promised to always look out for Jordan’s future—not just football- and he truly believed in Jordan’s incredible talent. Jermaine met with Jordan’s advisors at Penn State and was on top of his academics. He made Jordan accountable. He taught Jordan strength and offered guidance. About 5 years ago Jermaine had some back pain and was diagnosed with ALS.  He has a family and kids and is still working. Jordan respects the way he is still providing and leading by example.

Larry Johnson at Penn State has had the most influence on Hill “Football wise.” Johnson has the same style as his dad. He was very hard on Jordan, as he is on all of his players. He promised Jordan If he did all the work, there would be a “Lightbulb moment.” Jordan’s sophomore year, everything Larry taught him- all came together and he experienced tremendous growth and success. Jordan and Larry still stay in touch.   Jordan likes Johnson’s football philosophy- and his outlook on life in general.

Football and Life

“There are many similarities to football and life in general”, says Hill. Football is often plan, plan, plan. Yet, each and every day the plan gets “blown up”. You just have to adapt when things don’t end up the way you expect. Players get hurt, kids leave the school, each situation in football is something you have to overcome. Football is life’s greatest teacher.  It has taught Hill a lot about relationships. Each relationship with players is unique. There are over eighty players from over eighty walks of life. Life is about “learning” different people and building relationships with them.

Trinity Football Pride

Jordan is proud of coming back and teaching kids on and off the field skills and things he wishes he would have known at their age.

He is filled with pride when he sees the players’ growth on and off the field.

Comparing the first day they could work out- mid June 2021- to mid-June 2022- is like night and day. Remarkably, the biggest change is the bonds and the trust between the team members. How close the players have become. Seeing the kids unite, set a good example and become good role models. Football players doing the right things speaks volumes.

The staff support at Trinity is phenomenal.

Principal – John Cominsky backs everything and is a true believer. He wants to do everything the right way. Above all things he wants to protect Trinity.

New Athletic Director Eric Kindler – Hill appreciates his vision for what he wants athletic programs to be—all sports- support from top to bottom treated equally. His passion for Trinity is infectious.

Justin Assadinia—School Strength Coach-is a real asset. Justin comes from Penn State where he played rugby. He supports all school sports and is tremendous. It is very rare to have a full-time strength coach- especially with a D1 Strength background. High level 1 Strength and Conditioning is a huge bonus for Trinity athletes. Justin builds relationship with his players in a way that Jordan truly respects.

Fall 2022 Season

Trinity is in a unique situation. It is growth heavy, and a lot of patience needs to be had. The football team is truly blessed to be using the fields at Good Shepherd Elementary for summer workouts. All of the coaches deserve a huge shout out for changing on the fly each day. These guys really roll with punches. They show up and treat it likes it the best program int the country.  Jordan can’t say enough good things about the Trinity Football Coaching Staff.

There is a different schedule this fall than in years past. They are bringing in Philly Catholic league team with D1 prospects which will be an exciting challenge. The Shamrocks will travel to Wyommissing to play a very solid team who has been to multiple state champtionships in the past. The Steel High game will be another great one- as this is Jordan’ s alma mater.
