Maine South dance team hoping to build off their 4th High Kick National Championship
PARK RIDGE, Ill. — A new season has begun for the Maine South Hawkettes. Varsity coach, Casey Gibbons, and JV coach, Lauren Haman, are eager to start the new season after a very successful season last year. This past February, the Varsity Hawkettes won their 4th High Kick National Championship. The Hawkettes danced their kick routine to “What a Wonderful World” by Reuben and the Dark. They dedicated their routine to everyone that struggled through the pandemic and needed to find hope. This is Coach Casey’s second National title with the team. The routine was choreographed by former University of Minnesota dancers, Mary Levoir and Ashley Halloran.
Some other highlights include undefeated CSL Conference Champions, IHSA Sectional Champions, and top 5 at IHSA State with their pom routine. The JV Hawkette team completed a successful season by placing 3rd at the JV Championship hosted by Glenbrook South. The Hawkettes would not be so successful without the entire coaching staff, including pom choreographer and technique instructor, Stephanie Raciak and trainer Chrissy Davis.
The Hawkettes are also dedicated to getting involved in the community. They perform at the Taste of Park Ridge, Vine Street Barbeque, and other community events. They volunteer at the Horner Hustle, Feed My Starving Children, Blanket of Dreams, and Uncle Pete’s Sack Lunches. This year they are excited to add a partnership with their new “sister studio,” the Maywood Fine Arts Center.
The Hawkettes love sharing their passion for dance with the community. Every summer they have a kids camp from 1st through 8th graders. In the fall, they host a second camp for grades 1st through 6th. At this camp, dancers learned a halftime routine to perform at a Friday night football game with the Maine South Band. This year the camp dates are September 13th and 14th, with the performance on September 15th.
