Recapping the past year in Liberty North athletics
LIBERTY, Mo. — Monday, August 8 is the start of Fall Athletic Practice begins at Liberty North as well as all Missouri State High School Activities Association member high schools. North Nation is looking forward to another year of athletic competition in our 22 varsity sports.
Before we look ahead, let’s recap another incredible year of athletic success for the Eagles.
A Missouri Class 6A State Championship in Baseball!
State Final Four appearances in Football (2nd), Men’s Cross Country (3rd), Women’s Golf (2nd), Men’s Track and Field (3rd), and Women’s Soccer (3rd).
Conference championships in Volleyball, Men’s Cross Country, Football, Women’s Golf, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Baseball, Mens’ Golf, and Women’s Soccer.
District championships in Volleyball, Men’s Cross Country, Football, Softball, Baseball, Men’s Track and Field, and Women’s Soccer.
Additionally, Bailey Burkett (So) won the individual state championship in Women’s Golf. In Men’s Track and Field, the Eagles had two state champions with Matthew Morrison (Jr) in the Javelin and the 4×800 Relay Team of Kaden Kleinhen (So), Grayson Tapp (Jr), Collin Kleinhen (So), and Ethan Lee (Sr).
In the final week of the spring season, the 2021-22 academic year finished with a flourish with both the men’s track and field and women’s soccer finishing 3rd in the state as well as the first-ever baseball state championship in school history.
Combine all of this with the similar athletic success at cross-town rival Liberty High School, we should call ourselves the “City of Champions”.
This fall Liberty North will be fielding varsity sports teams in football, men’s swimming and diving, men’s soccer, both men’s and women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s tennis, softball, and volleyball. Additionally, we field a club (non-MSHSAA) women’s rugby team.
Competition begins on Friday, August 26 as the Eagles (under the direction of new head coach Andy Lierman) take on the Bronco’s of Lee’s Summit North in a 7:00 p.m. varsity football game at Liberty North at the Crossley Family Activity Complex. This should prove to be the game of the week in Kansas City with both Liberty North and Lee’s Summit North finishing in the Missouri Class 6 final four last year. Additionally, Liberty North and Lee’s Summit North were ranked 2nd and 4th respectively in the Kansas City metro area last season.
