Plainfield North girls volleyball earns 4th USMC/AVCA academic award

PLAINFIELD, Ill. — The Plainfield North High School girls’ volleyball team was recognized with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season.

The PNHS Tigers are one of 425 high school division teams to earn the honor this year and compiled a 5.11-grade point average on a 5.0 scale. This is the fourth consecutive year the team has earned this prestigious honor.

The team earned the additional Honor Roll distinction which represents the top 20 percent of team GPAs in the high school division. “I am so proud of these girls and the PNHS girls’ volleyball program,” says PNHS Athletic Director Ron Lear. “These girls work extremely hard in the classroom and on the court and are prime examples of what we want our student-athletes to achieve at PNHS.”

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated in 1992–93 and honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. PNHS has earned both the Team Academic Award and Honor Roll distinction each year since 2019.
