Brady James Gabbard Memorial Softball Tournament returned to benefit Lawrenceburg HS

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — The second annual Brady James Gabbard Memorial Softball Tournament took place on July 30th at the Lawrenceburg Conservancy District Community Athletic Park. One of Brady’s passions was playing baseball, so it was only fitting to organize a softball tournament to honor his memory and to raise funds for the Brady Gabbard Memorial Scholarship, which is available to all seniors at Lawrenceburg High School.

Brady was diagnosed with stage four renal cell carcinoma after masses were found on his liver and kidneys just two weeks prior to his death on July 2, 2021. Brady was fourteen years old and a sophomore at Lawrenceburg High School. He was a devoted Tigers football player since second grade.

A total of twenty-two teams competed in both co-ed and youth softball games, over forty games were played. Last year’s inaugural event was a great success. Organizers surpassed their fundraising goal of $2,845, which was set based on Brady’s football and baseball jersey numbers.

A total of four $1,000 scholarships were able to be awarded in 2022. “It truly means a lot to have so much support and love in remembering Brady and for such a great cause”, said Jennifer Gabbard, Brady’s mother. Four $1,000 scholarships are planned to be awarded in 2023 and 2024.
