Pine Creek HS football team prepared for marquee matchup to begin fall season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Thursday, September 22. A match to remember for the ages. The floodlights fill the stadium. The roar of the crowd crescendos. The players take to the field. Nothing beats the sights and sounds of classic Pine Creek football. On September 22 at 6:00 PM, Pine Creek invites you to come and support Eagle Athletics and watch Pine Creek demolish Mullen.

The Mullen Mustangs have won eight state championships which ties them for sixth place in Colorado Men’s Football History. However, their last championship victory was back in 2010. Although the Pine Creek Eagles have won three state championships to the Mustangs’ eight, the Eagles’ victories have been much more recent and took place in 2013, 2014, and 2016. Mullen’s football program started in 1931, so they have had over ninety years to amass their eight championships. Pine Creek High School opened in 1998, so they have had much less time to achieve those three championships.

Mullen is transitioning to a new conference, the Front Range League South, and is taking on programs that are not usually found on their schedule. Their head coach, Jeremy Bennett, has stated, “We are very excited to get back to traveling and exposing our athletes to top-level competition.”

Although the Mustangs and the Eagles have not yet met, the Eagles will still bring all they have. Carson Caplan, number sixty-seven, and a part of the offensive line for the Eagles replies, “I would say they are all great programs, and each game we will have to play our hardest,” when asked about how the team will prepare for the upcoming season. Last season, the Eagles won ten games and lost only three. In these thirteen games, the Eagles scored fifty-eight touchdowns, scoring 412 total points. In their South League division, they went 3 and 2, which set them in third place.

One number to look for on the field is number thirty-four, Brett Alvey. He will be a Senior for Pine Creek, and this past season, he was ranked 3rd in Colorado for tackles, with his outstanding 102 total tackles. He is also ranked 20th in Colorado for sacks, as he had ten this past season.

The schedule for all of Pine Creek’s home games is listed below. On September 8 the Eagles will play Vista Ridge. This game is the Homecoming game for the Eagles, so the stands will be packed with students. On October 8, the Eagles will take on Regis Jesuit, who beat Pine Creek 24-14 last year. They will also play Legend on October 14, who beat them 26-23. On November 5, they will take on Chaparral. The last time the Eagles took on Chaparral was back in 2020 on October 23, and they won 17-7.
