Silverton Sharks youth swim team announced as 5th division champions
CARY, N.C. — The Silverton Sharks just finished their 27th season with the Tarheel Swimming Association. Winning five out of six meets in the regular season, the Sharks were announced to be champions of the 5th division!
Good news also came at the 39th annual Cary City Invitational meet on July 16, 2022. Out of 23 teams who participated, Silverton placed 5th! Swimmers had so much fun dressing up as minions led by their head coach, “Gru”, inspired by the recent film, Minions: The Rise of Gru. Among the sea of tents at the meet, it was easy to spot a group of minions walking around.
Throughout the season, there was plenty of socializing with ice cream socials, pancake breakfasts and dinners, and an annual pasta party. A coach was pied in the face and the Sharks went ice skating for the first time! Every swim meet, the Sharks dressed up for different themes, including Superheros vs. Villains, Hawaiian, and Pajama Party!
Over the season, 900 speeding tickets were given out for best times! Every swim meet had an average improvement of at least 30%. That’s a lot of candy! Several team and pool records were broken as well, making for a competitive season.
If you’ve never been on a swim team before, think about it over the winter. If you also want to be part of a social but competitive summer swim team, consider joining the Silverton Sharks for the next season in 2023. Registration will open in April 2023. Go Sharks!
