I then arrive at school early and throw the ball around with a few teammates before we all meet up together. Our team’s pregame ritual includes raising the black flag every home game, pregame lift, and Knight walk.”
Jake Davids is a natural athlete, but don’t be quick to put him into the “jock” category. The Ardrey Kell Junior has many interests beyond his sports, and there’s more to him than his football accolades. Last year, he managed a course load of all honors and AP classes and was on the A/B Honor Roll. He also ran for Student of the Year, leading a team to raise $25,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This well-rounded young man holds a job at the Lifetime Gym cafe and volunteers and tutors in his spare time. “I also enjoy hanging with friends and family, playing chess, and working out at the gym,” he says.
He is looking forward to this upcoming football season, where he hopes to help his team win conference and do well in the finals. He enjoys the camaraderie of the sport, and the challenge of learning to play different positions. “I love the competitiveness I get to apply in practices and games, as well as the versatility of the sport,” he says. His personal motto is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” “I think this applies to me greatly, because ever since 7th grade I’ve been working as hard as I can to be the best person I can be–athletically and academically. I don’t take for granted that I have some natural ability, but I know that’s not enough to get me far in the sport.” We look forward to seeing what Davids does this year–both on and off the field!
