What are your personal goals within your sport?
Spencer Moth: My short-term goal is to make it to the state championship. I was one win away from making it to state last school year. My longer-term goal is to be state champion.
What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?
Moth: The biggest challenge for most wrestlers, including me, is to maintain weight. We weigh ourselves after every practice, so five times a week during the school season!
What do you love about your sport?
Moth: Anyone can wrestle, and, due to the different weight classes, successful wrestlers can be all shapes and sizes.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Moth: I enjoy cooking, working out, and video games.
What has being a member of a team taught you?
Moth: I am a member of both Jamestown High School and Williamsburg Wrestling Club teams. It has taught me about team spirit and working towards team goals. Being a member of Williamsburg Wrestling enabled me to go to a training camp at North Carolina State University, where I got to meet lots of other wrestlers.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Moth: “Sometimes a teacher, always a student.”
