Dexter’s Cole Cabana could be the next Christian McCaffrey
DEXTER, Mich. (BVM) – In this era of football, running backs need to prove that they can run and catch the ball effectively out of the backfield. In the Class of 2023, one running back does both exceptionally well: Dexter’s Cole Cabana.
As a junior, Cabana rushed for nearly 1,700 yards and crossed the goal line 24 times. He also caught 32 passes and scored four touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Dreadnaughts finished the season with an overall record of 5-5.
Regardless of last year’s results, his output during his junior season has inspired him and his teammates to finish their senior year on a high note. His results inspired not only those around him but also major DI colleges like Purdue, West Virginia, Michigan and others.
With a plethora of interest, Cabana decided to commit to Michigan on Feb. 5.

“Michigan is the right choice for me because right off the bat, it felt like home,” Cabana told 247Sports. “It’s also the school that is going to give me the best opportunities for making it to the next level as well as academically. I love everything about Michigan.”
Alongside his success on the football field, Cabana has seen his athletic progress carry over to the track. In May 2022, Cabana ran a 10.55 in the 100m dash in the regional round. Cabana also set multiple school records during his sophomore year.
With his speed on the track and talent on the football field, Cabana has drawn comparisons to NFL star Christian McCaffrey.
“We’ve always compared him to Christian McCaffrey,” Cabana’s father told 247Sports. “He’s heard that a lot from different colleges [and] going on the visits. That’s the player that we see. We watch a lot of his films. We try to train like him.”
In the meantime, Cabana will do his best to boost his already impressive skill set and prepare for a championship season at Dexter. And one could imagine how diligent Cabana is with his preparation. But one thing is for certain. Cabana is one of the best high school players in Michigan and is on his way to having a rewarding athletic career.
