Top 10 Florida WRs/TEs for 2022 HS football season

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (BVM) — Nothing is more beneficial to a quarterback than a reliable playmaker. And the state of Florida is loaded with them.

Here are the top high school pass catchers in the Sunshine State for the 2022 season.

10. Connor Cox, Sr., The Bolles School

The 6-foot-5, 220pound tight end is a safety blanket for his QB. Last season, Cox only had seven receptions, but he should play a larger role in their offense in 2022. Committed to South Carolina, Cox looks to go out with a bang in his final year of high school ball.

9. Bredell Richardson, Jr., Carrollwood Day

A Tampa native, Richardson looks to have a breakout year in 2022. Currently ranked as the No. 74 player in the country in the 2024 class according to 247 Sports, Richardson already holds 31 Power 5 offers. The 6-foot-1 185pound receiver looks to be the heartbeat of Carrollwood Day’s offense this season.

8. Aidan Mizell, Sr., Boone

Mizell can flat-out fly. The Florida recruit has run a 10.65 100meter dash and a 46.99 400meter dash. This allowed him to make big play after big play for Boone High School last year. The 6-foot-2, 180pound wideout caught 47 balls, racking up over a thousand receiving yards with 18 touchdowns. Mizell ranks as the No. 72 player in the 2023 class, but it would not shock anyone if he boosted his stock this season.

7. Hykeem Williams, Sr., Stranahan

Williams does it all for Stranahan High School. Last year, he averaged a double double on the basketball court. As a freshman, Williams was a member of the swim team. But it is clear that his future is on the football field. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound receiver finished his junior season with 40 receptions 750 yards and 11 touchdowns. Williams is one of the premier playmakers to watch this year in the state of Florida.

6. Jalen Brown, Sr., Gulliver Prep

As a sophomore, Brown was a regional champion in the 100-meter dash and qualified for state in the 200-meter dash. Brown’s elite speed is what makes him a premier high school talent in Florida. Coming in as the No. 10 player in the state, Brown will be a vital part of what Gulliver Prep can accomplish this season. The LSU pledge had 56 catches, for over a thousand receiving yards with 11 touchdowns.

5. Jonathan Echols, Jr., IMG Academy

Echols will be one of the most versatile players on arguably the best high school team in the nation in 2022. A transfer from Heard County High School in Franklin, Georgia, Echols did just about everything in 2021. Not too many players in the country had over 200 passing yards, 180 receiving yards and 3 sacks. The Tennessee recruit is a special athlete that will likely primarily be an edge rusher and tight end for IMG in 2022.

4. Carnell Tate, Sr., IMG Academy

Tate will likely be the catalyst of one of the best offenses in the country this season. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound receiver is ranked as the No. 20 player in the country and could possibly finish even higher than that by season’s end. The Ohio State recruit will look to show out in his final year in high school ball.

3. Jeremiah Smith, Jr., Chaminade-Madonna Prep

Smith’s speed runs in the family. Cousin of NFL QB Geno Smith, qualified for regionals as a freshman in both the 100-meter dash and the 300-meter dash. To no surprise, his speed translates well to the receiver position. Smith had 31 receptions, for 667 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022, helping lead Chaminade-Madonna to a 3A state title.

2. Brandon Inniss, Sr., American Heritage

Ohio State fans will be well in tune with high school football in Florida this year with Tate and Inniss. Also a star on the basketball court, Inniss is just too physical for his opposition regardless of sport. The 6-foot, 190 pound receiver had 1,253 total yards in 2021, leading American Heritage to the second round of the playoffs.

1. Jojo Trader, Jr., Chaminade-Madonna Prep

If you live in the Hollywood area, do yourself a favor by attending as many Chaminade-Madonna games as possible over the next two years. Trader is transferring in for the 2022 season, creating one of the most dynamic duos in the country with him and Smith. Trader ranks as the No. 3 player in the country for the 2024 class and rightfully so. He finished last year with 26 receptions, 592 yards and six touchdowns in 2021. Trader oozes with NFL talent, but will first have to make a decision amongst his 26 Power 5 offers.
